The “Mediterraneo: viaggio delle vicinanze” contest for shorts and documentaries
“Mediterraneo: viaggio delle vicinanze” is a contest born in 2022, with the patronage of the Banco di Napoli Foundation. The awards ceremony of the first edition took place aboard the Palinuro ship of the Italian Navy. The participating short films and/or documentaries must highlight and analyze what constitutes a great “capital”: diplomacy and cultural dialogue. The challenge focuses on the fortunate combination of cinema and the Mediterranean, stimulating the creativity of the Authors, invited to create works that have as their theme the story of the South in a Mediterranean vision.
The contest that celebrates the combination of cinema and train
“Viaggio in treno” (trip on a train) is a competition born this year, with the patronage of the Italian State Railways Foundation and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and is created with the technical partnership of Ett spa, a leading company in the digital world of the Scai group. The challenge aims to address, through creative content, one of the many emblematic aspects of contemporaneity: the complementarity between subject and community in the context of an experience known to everyone, that of mobility and travel. In fact, travel has always been a cultural opportunity for discovery, knowledge and introspection. After all, there is a strong link between cinema and the train. It is a constant presence. Starting from “L’arrivo di un treno alla stazione di La Ciotat” (The Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat Station) by Auguste and Louis Lumiere, which by convention is cited among the first works of cinema.
The winners of the two contests will be selected by a technical jury and representatives of the Department of Political Sciences of the University of Campania Vanvitelli, directed by Professor Francesco Eriberto d’Ippolito.
The official proclamation is scheduled for the end of October during a ceremony-show that will take place at the Teatro Comunale Tasso in Sorrento and which will be presided over by the Mayor of Sorrento Massimo Coppola.
