The Teatro d’aMare festival, organized by the LaboArt Tropea association and sponsored by the Municipality of Tropea, will take place in Tropea from September 10th to 13th. The main sponsors of the initiative are LaboApartments, Tropis Hotel, Acqua degli Dei and Associazione Albergatori Tropea (As.Al.T.).
The event will be held at the Giardino Vescovile (of the Diocesan Museum) located in Via Glorizio. The latter will become the agora of multidisciplinary meetings that the event will offer which, this year more than ever, will take shape in many corners of the ancient center of Tropea which is already an open-air theater in itself.
The theme chosen for the year 2024 is The contemporary scene with a woman’s voice, a focus on female voices in the performing and visual arts.
Teatro d’aMare 8 wants to underline the power of women in the act of artistic creation and highlight the gender inequalities that exist and need to be fought in the world of entertainment.
The festival will open on September 10th at 6 PM with “Con voce di donna”(with voice of women), an opening debate that addresses and delves into these very issues. Reading the studies published by Amlet@ (an intersectional feminist collective that shines a spotlight on the presence of women in the world of entertainment), a worrying fact emerged: in the main halls of the major national theaters, there are only 13.7% women in directing and 23.2% women in dramaturgy.
This disproportion is the result of an atavistic and bad habit that relegates women capable of creating a work of art to a disadvantageous position compared to men who deal with the same thing. A veto has been placed in the choice of shows: all the works on the program have been conceived, written or directed by at least one woman. The debate will be moderated by anthropologist Ludovica Franzé. The Amlet@ association will be present with one of its founders Debora Zuin and there will also be other scholars who will enrich the discussion: Michela Ruffa and Nella Morano (teachers of Literature), Linda Rombolà (Aicem Calabria), Luisa Borini (actress), Beatrice Lento (SOS Korai).
On the same date, at 8.30 PM, the first time in Tropea of Roberto Latini, multiple winner at the UBU in recent years, who will give voice to the poems of Mariangela Gualtieri. “La delicatazza del poco e del niente” (The delicacy of little and nothing) is a living example of how powerful the female voice is in poetically describing the human condition. Following an excerpt from Opheleia by dancer Alessandra Cristiani, a danced investigation into the Shakespearean figure of Ophelia.
On September 11 at 7:30AM, other delicacies will cheer up the brave audience who decides to wake up at the first light of dawn: Roberto Latini and Alessandra Cristiani will give life to “Tutte le piangere sono il mare”, on the shores of the Tropea waters at the Camping Marina del Convento.
In the evening we return to the Garden of the Diocesan Museum at 7.30PM with Laura Nardinocchi and Niccolò Matcovich who will present their new work “Strada maestra” (Main road), a reflection on the relationship between human beings and nature. At 10PM there will be “Molto dolore per nulla” (Much pain for nothing), a show written and directed by Luisa Borini and recent winner of the In-box Award. This show, halfway between stand-up comedy and a committed monologue, investigates the difficulty of realizing when a love becomes toxic.
On September 12, in double performance at 7.30PM and 11.30PM will arrive “Just walking”, a traveling performance by Campsirago residenza that explores the theme of walking in the history of humanity. The audience will walk with headphones on in the crowd of Tropea.
At 10PM there will then be a concert by Pakkyone, a large Japanese-style puppet that plays a guzheng (a Chinese zither).
On September 13 at 8.30PM there will be the welcome return of Quotidiana.com with the show “I greci, gente seria! Come i danzatori” (The Greeks, serious people! Like dancers) which ironically investigates the split between the body and the mind implemented by the Western way of life. This work won the 2022 Tuttoteatro.com Dante Cappelletti Award for the performing arts.
Closing the festival at 10PM on the same date will be the universal sound of Tarab Ensemble, a trio of voices and percussions that will transport the audience to another dimension with its overwhelming energy.
To further enrich the already full program of Teatro d’aMare 8 there will be the exhibitions:
Trame (plots)- by Nadia Riotto
Materia (matters) – luce corpo by Caterina Stillitano
R.A.M. – by Elisa Trapuzzano
Meduso – by Gerardo Mazzitelli
