Mediterranean: the competition for short films, documentaries and innovative talents is coming

The official presentation of the initiative will take place during the 54th edition of the Giffoni Film Festival, with the media partnership of Rai Cinema Channel and the collaboration of the Vanvitelli University

Sorrento, June 28th, 2024 (Na) – The film competition for short films, documentaries and innovative talents of “Il Simposio delle Muse”, a Third Sector Body, is coming as part of the productions and special projects towards the thirtieth anniversary of the “Penisola Sorrentina” Award. The competition is organized in collaboration with the Department of Political Sciences of the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”, co-produced by the Municipality of Sorrento, directed by Mario Esposito, and is promoted in media partnership with Rai Cinema Channel. The competition will be presented, in absolute preview, during the 54th edition of the Giffoni Film Festival scheduled for next July.
The contest aims to focus on the Mediterranean area, where cooperation and development strengthen each other, reducing poverty and inequalities. The Mediterranean has always been a complex multidimensional geopolitical system as well as a hinge between different worlds. An area that is confirmed to be at the center of multiple, very heterogeneous dynamics, on which enduring crises are often grafted, the effects of which reverberate on Europe and, certainly, on Italy.
The short films and/or documentaries in the competition will highlight and analyze what constitutes a great “capital”: diplomacy and cultural dialogue.
The challenge focuses on the fortunate combination of cinema and the Mediterranean, stimulating the creativity of the participants, invited to create works that have as their theme the story of the South in a Mediterranean vision.
From a shortlist of finalists, selected by a technical jury, the students and PhD students of the Department of Political Sciences of the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” will select the winning audiovisual that will receive recognition from the Mayor of Sorrento Massimo Coppola and that will be distributed on Rai Cinema Channel.
Participation is free through this platform ย active until July 31st.
