Sorrento, June 17th, 2024 – A new appointment for the board for the two-year period 2024/2025. It was signed by the director of the Premio penisola Sorrentina (Penisola Sorrentina Award), Mario Esposito. Danilo Rea will chair, in 2024 and 2025, the artistic board that will deal with the organization of the thirtieth anniversary of the very important national Award, which Rea himself was awarded in 2018.
The great pianist and composer will take care, in particular, of the relationship between music and cinema.
The appointment is in Sorrento on October 26th, on the eve of the important anniversary.
“I sincerely thank Maestro Rea and producer Aldo Mercurio who, with friendship, are accompanying the Penisola Sorrentina Award towards a significant stage and with whom I hope, also for the future, to be able to create a new cultural and artistic organism. In this sense, the closeness of the Institutions will be relevant to write the new course of an event, which has now become part of the cultural imagination of the country“, says Mario Esposito, organizer and director of the Sorrento event.
The award is promoted by the Municipal Administration of Sorrento directed by Massimo Coppola, and is included in the promotion plan for cinema and audiovisual of the Film Commission of the Campania Region.
Danilo Rea is one of the most appreciated jazz pianists in the world. He has worked with Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Steve Grossman, Bob Berg, Phil Woods, Michael Brecker, Tony Oxley, Joe Lovano, Gato Barbieri, Aldo Romano, Brad Mehldau, Danilo Pérez, Michel Camilo, Luis Bacalov. In the meantime, he collaborates with Claudio Baglioni, Pino Daniele, Domenico Modugno, Fiorella Mannoia, Riccardo Cocciante, Renato Zero, Gianni Morandi and Adriano Celentano.
“Music is a strange poetry. It moves emotions and brings to mind forgotten memories; it is born everywhere and brings people together, going beyond words through notes and spreading a “, comments Danilo Rea. Last year we saw the Maestro around Italy, alongside Fiorella Mannoia in the show Luce and he is currently busy with a very busy tour –
For the cinema, Rea has also composed the music for several films and documentaries, including, directed by Walter Veltroni, ‘È stato tutto bello’ (Everything was beautiful); ‘Storia di Paolino e Pablito’ (Story of Paolino and Pablito), ‘C’è tempo’ (There’s time), ‘Indizi di felicità’ (Indication of hppines) and ‘Quando c’era Berlinguer’ (When there was Belinguer).
“Cinema and music – says Rea – often intersect. Just as music is the soundtrack of our lives, cinema needs music to amplify the emotions of experience“.
