Artistic residencies, webinars, workshops on beauty and a photographic exhibition are arriving in Sicily to remember Giuseppe Leone, part of the winning project of the “Strategia Fotografia” call for proposals by the Mic
Ragusa, February 13th, 2025 – From Sicily to Campania twice: in 2019 and 2021, when the Covid pandemic was still marking time and distances. A Grand Tour in reverse, from south to north: from Ragusa to Napoli. Or, better, from one South to another: from that of the beloved Sicily to the lands of Campania. Napoli, Pompeii, Sorrento, Salerno, Benevento, Buonalbergo, Teggiano, Procida: these were the stages of the “Viaggio in Campania” undertaken by the Sicilian photographer Giuseppe Leone and then presented at the Banco di Napoli Foundation, by will of the Secretary General Ciro Castaldo.
Now the “Viaggio” is about to arrive, next spring, in Sicily to pay homage to the master of black and white, one year after his death and to offer a broader vision of his Mediterranean also thanks to the institutional collaboration of the Municipal Administration of Ragusa.
A new installation of the original project will be curated by Emanuela Alfano (for decades the personal assistant of the Maestro), enriched by literary passages and multimedia technologies, to seal one of the stages of the project: “Promenade Méditerranéenne”, supported by the General Directorate of Contemporary Creativity of the Mic as part of the Strategia Fotografia 2024 call, among the special actions of the thirtieth anniversary of the “Penisola Sorrentina” Award, directed by Mario Esposito.
The overall project is dedicated to the enhancement of the landscape, identities and mixtures between the different possible narratives.
Among the planned activities there will be educational workshops and artistic residences, with the direction of the artist from Sannio Peppe Leone.
There will also be space for innovation and new technologies, linked to photography, through the webinar-conversations on Cercarte.it, the digital platform created by Alberto Nigro that connects artists, photographers and enthusiasts from all over the world.
All activities will be available free of charge.
