No Matter What! is a project by Hector Rivera, who we have featured in a previous interview, created together with the trumpeter, songwriter and singer Mona Seda.
Since 2010, Hector and Mona have brought together musical taste and creative skills, debuting with
Don’t Take It No More, a song inspired by the financial collapse of 2008 and the resulting corporate injustices that followed.
After years of hard work, with the contribution of musicians Daniele De Cario, Forrest Robinson, and Mike Basica, No Matter What! released “People Power“, a 14-track bilingual album (English and Spanish).
“People Power” is a project that presents stimulating content that makes you think, focusing on love and search for justice and set in a musical genre that starts from rock, touches punk and ends up incorporating Latin jazz elements.
The album is an inspiring work that has gone beyond music to get to something more, something that touches the soul and shakes the conscience, so strongly that soon it unfolded in a concept album, later evolved in a comic book, and then into an animated episode video series, produced by Héctor himself with Canadian graphic artist Danielle Hébert with narrations by Carlos Rivera.
“People Power” eventually has reached its pinnacle by being turned into a film about the potential for all humans to find common ground and move together to make the world better.
What really matters for No Matter What! is the message they want to give, that is a message of courage, tolerance, forgiveness, love and the pursuit of justice and peace. Something the world really needs right now more than ever!
If the current system responds to human failure with artificial intelligence, No Matter What! respond with a more conscious sense of humanity, giving the system itself a great moral slap.
In November 2023 we shared the preview of “People Power“. In the introduction to the preview we said that the powerful and relevant story would captivate audiences around the world, and indeed it did!
No Matter What! began a crowdfunding campaign to obtain donations that would allow them to submit their work to film festivals around the world and here comes what happened:
Last March 4th, the movie “People Power” was selected by the Toronto Indie Filmmakers Festival both for: Animation and Humanitarian Film. It got another official selection by the New York Tri-State International Film Festival, where it will be screened online. The movie was also selected by Paris Film Award Festival for the category Animated Film 2024 and today, it got from official selection to Gold Award: Animation! Even in Japan “People Power” got its spot by being selected at the Tokyo International Film Festival for the categories Message of Hope & Best Film Score.
That’s not all!
On March 16th “People Power” won two awards at the 2024 Berlin Indie Film Festival as Best Animation and Best War Theme Film.
Given the great potential of this work and its power to really shake consciences if you want to help your brain not to empty and your heart not to dry up and become dejected until it hits rock bottom, watch this film that speaks directly to the human spirit and, if you can, support No Matter What! that it becomes the manifesto of triumph of the people and of all beings who are still human.
