Amish – Il Cuore Oltre le Nuvole (The Heart Beyond the Clouds): the film that tells the story of the birth of a musical dream
Almost 30 years after the first album of the Sicilian group, a documentary film tells the story of that extraordinary musical experience and their recent return to the scene, with unpublished testimonies and vintage images
Milan – October 1st, 2024 – In the heart of the 90s, some Sicilian boys decided to transform their passion for music into something bigger. After years of concerts and kilometers traveled between squares, theaters and clubs in Sicily, in 1996 the Amish took a decisive step: they entered the recording studio and recorded their first original album, Canzoni.
Now, almost 30 years later, that story comes back to light through the film Amish – Il Cuore Oltre le Nuvole, an unpublished story that reveals the emotions, challenges and inspirations behind that crucial moment.
A portrait of music and friendship
Through evocative images and intimate testimonies of the protagonists, this film takes us behind the scenes of a courageous artistic choice, exploring the path of a band that has been able to reinvent itself over time and return to the stage after a long break. The film is much more than a nostalgic tribute: it is a vivid portrait of creativity, friendship and music that knows no age.
Through the narration, the audience will be able to discover the behind the scenes of those days in the studio and relive the emotions of a band that has decided to return to the stage with the same passion as in the past.
Amish – Il Cuore Oltre le Nuvole is much more than a simple music documentary. Through the narrative voice and the direct testimonies of the historical members of the band, Salvo Longo (vocals and guitar), Giovanni Giuffrida (keyboards and guitar) and Emanuele Bella (drums and percussion), the viewer is immersed in an emotional journey that tells the story of the courageous decision of the group to enter the studio to record the first four songs written by Giuffrida and Longo, marking an artistic evolution that led them to define a unique musical identity.
An authentic and intense story
The film reveals the background of that crucial moment, showing how the three musicians faced the challenges and the enthusiasm of recording four songs that marked their recording debut.
Through interviews and personal memories, Salvo Longo, Giovanni Giuffrida and Emanuele Bella tell the story of the birth of Canzoni, an album that has profoundly marked their career and that today, just republished, lives again in its restored form in the album “RE-VIBES 96”.
A journey through time and space
Filmed in splendid locations between Catania, Acireale, Linguaglossa, Milo, Etna, Riposto, Pordenone, Saronno, Como, Veneto, the film intertwines evocative images of the past with new shots that capture the essence of Sicily and the energy that has always characterized the Amish. The scenes alternate between moments of deep reflection and curious anecdotes, given by the protagonists themselves, creating an emotional bond between past and present.
The film also dedicates a special space to the video clips of the restored songs of the album, offering an intimate and detailed vision of the audio recovery process, curated by Sound Engineer Dario Giuffrida.
The latter, who worked in Milan on all the mixes and masterings after the 2023 reunion, tells in a fascinating way the technical work behind the new life of the songs that are now part of the album “RE-VIBES 96“.
The protagonists’ statements
“For us – say the three Amish – this film is a way to share with the public what our music and our friendship have meant in all these years.
There have been difficult moments, but also a lot of joy, and it is all contained in these images and testimonies. We wanted to show the heart behind our decision to return to making music, and we think that the film manages to convey all the emotion of those years, both for us and for those who have always followed us.
We lived those years with passion and determination, and being able to relive those moments through the film made us feel as if we had never stopped. It is a tribute to our history and to Sicily, a land that has always inspired our music“.
An emotional ending
The film ends with an emotional epilogue, in which the band members tell the end of that phase of their career, before the long break that lasted almost 30 years. The final act of Amish – Il Cuore Oltre le Nuvole leaves the viewer with a mixture of nostalgia and hope, showing how the passion for music can always be rekindled, even after decades of absence.
Those who have had the opportunity to see the film in preview have described it as “extraordinarily emotional”, a story that manages to touch the deepest chords of the soul, enveloping the viewer in a moving and humane story.
